Hello, I’m a PC… No, wait actually I’m a Mac.
In the irony to end all ironies, there is some pretty convincing evidence that Microsoft’s new “I’m a PC” commercial was actually made on a Mac.
There is no need to put into words how confusing this 300 million dollar campaign is, especially when others have done such a good job. To me this is almost as embarrassing as the old Microsoft Hotmail debacle where they had to run the Hotmail servers on Unix for a time, because windows NT couldn’t scale to enough servers.
Now on to the good stuff, read about how Microsoft got exposed via Flickr.

All funny and everything, but let’s not distort the truth: the *images* featured on their website were saved on mac, but it’s a far cry from saying everything was “done on a mac”; and the hotmail servers were on *nix *before* Microsoft bought them. They later changed the servers.

Right you are Tim, on both accounts.
But that doesn’t make me wrong. I never said that the image was definitive proof, only convincing evidence. You do have to admit that the image being found on a Microsoft website with Mac metadata in it is pretty ironic. Microsoft must think so too, they didn’t waste any time replacing those images once they were discovered.
On the Hotmail point, you are completely correct. Microsoft did purchase Hotmail while it was running on *nix servers and later replaced it with Windows servers. My original point is still valid though: Microsoft couldn’t convert Hotmail to Windows servers at first, because Windows NT at the time didn’t scale to the necessary number of processors. I remember reading somewhere that they didn’t even start the conversion process until Windows 2k Server came out.
At any rate, the fact that an Ad company chooses to use Macs is hardly ammunition to say Microsoft sucks. Its just pretty damn funny to find Macs behind the scenes on Microsoft’s I’m a PC commercial.
